The Case Against Sugar: Is Gary Taubes Full Of Sweet Lies & Deception, Or Is Sugar Really Making Us Fat?

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/taubes My guest on today's podcast - Gary Taubes - just wrote a groundbreaking, eye-opening exposé entitled "The Case Against Sugar" that makes the convincing case that sugar is the tobacco of the new millennium: backed by powerful lobbies, entrenched in our lives, and making us very sick. Among Americans, diabetes is more prevalent today than ever; obesity is at epidemic proportions; nearly 10% of children are thought to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. And Gary believes sugar is at the root of these, and other, critical society-wide, health-related problems. In the book, he delves into Americans' history with sugar: its uses as a preservative, as an additive in cigarettes, the contemporary overuse of high-fructose corn syrup. He explains what research has shown about our addiction to sweets. He clarifies the arguments against sugar, corrects misconceptions about the relationship between sugar and weight loss; and provides the perspective necessary to make informed decisions about sugar as individuals and as a society. The ever prolific Gary Taubes is cofounder and senior scientific advisor of the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI). He's an award-winning science and health journalist, the author of The Case Against Sugar, Why We Get Fat and Good Calories, Bad Calories, and a former staff writer for Discover and correspondent for the journal Science. His writing has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, and Esquire, and has been included in numerous Best of anthologies, including The Best of the Best American Science Writing (2010). He has received three Science in Society Journalism Awards from the National Association of Science Writers. He is also the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research. He lives in Oakland, California. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The difference between glucose and fructose, and how is that related to sucrose...[7:35] -Why the fructose we eat now is different than the fructose we find in nature...[14:20] -How German researchers discovered sugar to be just as as effective as "crack cocaine"...[21:10] -The fascinating marriage of tobacco and sugar, and why sugar is in cigarettes...[27:50] -How "metabolic imprinting" causes a baby's pancreatic cells to become dysfunctional...[33:35] -Why salt may not be the cause for hypertension, but sugar may...[44:00] -The relationship between sugar, gout and uric acid, and why gout and uric acid may not just be protein related...[47:10 & 57:00] -Why different people have different blood sugar responses to sugar...[49:20] -What Gary thinks of the fact that he's been called out on the fact that the NuSci metabolic ward research found no insulin-obesity link, and whether it's calories, not macronutrients, that are most important...[65:00] -And much more! Three years ago, I read two life-changing books that completely transformed the way that I think about my own purpose and meaning in life, and whether I'm truly making a difference in the world or whether I'm simply engaged in a relentless pursuit of "fitnessing" without actually making an impact in anyone's life. The books - titled "Unfinished" and "Hole In The Gospel" - were written by author Rich Stearns, the president of a company called World Vision - a global Christian humanitarian organization that partners with children, families, and their communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Within just a few weeks of reading the books, my children and I had "adopted" a little girl from Ethiopia, who we send gifts and financial support to each month. We'd also begun volunteering more in our local community and doing a better job teaching others about the importance of purpose and passion in life, love and relationships, and belief in a higher power. These are all values I highlight in my article: "Five Quotes I Live By, Three Keys To Happiness, Two Questions To Ask Yourself & One Must-Do Thought Experiment." Now, when it comes to helping care for and support others and equipping others on this planet to experience a more fulfilling life,  I'm about to take things to the next level. How? By supporting World Vision's bold initiative called the "THRIVE" Economic Empowerment program. THRIVE is based on the fact that millions of people in the most impoverished parts of the world are smallholder farmers who lack access to the knowledge, capital, markets, technology, and information they need to build thriving businesses. World Vision's fully integrated, proven approach to economic empowerment is designed to equip these hardworking men and women to move from surviving to - you guessed it - thriving. Ultimately, this helps hardworking families break the cycle of extreme poverty for good. My guest on today's podcast, Christopher Shore, is the Chief Development Officer of this entire "THRIVE" Economic Empowerment program. Now in his 20th year with World Vision, Chris works on issues which contribute to the work of THRIVE - specifically building improved and resilient livelihoods for smallholder farmers. Chris began partnering with World Vision on microfinance issues while working for the Mennonite Economic Development Associates. He joined World Vision as National Director in Romania in 1997. He moved to California to lead World Vision's microfinance and economic development work starting in 2001, and was largely focused on microfinance. Chris founded VisionFund International in 2003 and handed leadership to Scott Brown in 2006. That same year Chris turned his attention to the non-microfinance aspects of economic development, and began World Vision's Natural Environment and Climate Issues group, which he led full-time starting in 2008. In 2011 Chris became one of the architects of Securing Africa's Future in Tanzania - now THRIVE. In 2013 he led that work for East and West Africa, and in 2015 moved to World Vision USA. Chris is Canadian, lives in Southern California, is married to Dr. Susan Shore, and is father to Andrew and Katrina. He enjoys cycling, gardening, and woodworking. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The shocking concept of generational poverty and how a vicious cycle persists from generation to generation in many countries in Africa, from Tanzania to Rwanda and beyond...18:15 -How THRIVE shifts mindsets to an understanding that every person has great value, and possesses the power and responsibility to move from dependency to dignity...27:30 -The "bank" that THRIVE then helps each farmer to create in their local community to create end-to-end business of farming...31:45 -The importance of natural resource management and how THRIVE helps farmers manage their on-farm soil, vegetation, and water management, and to manage and rehabilitate forests, watersheds, and grasslands...41:40 -How THRIVE teaches emergency and situational awareness and teaches the farmers how to manage investments and risks and needs information to deal with shocks, emergencies, and change around them...52:00 -The way that hardworking farmers finally have the ability to consistently feed their children nutritious food; send them to school; cover bills for basic healthcare; build a house made of brick with a metal roof instead of mud, sticks, and straw; and reinvest in their businesses...57:00 -How you can support this entire program and even visit Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and see the THRIVE initiative in action...1:04:30 -And much more! How Much Alcohol Makes You Fat? [00:41:13] Margie says:  I listened to the podcast about alcohol twice but I still have three questions: 1- Does alcohol really slow or halt your body's ability to metabolize fat enough to cause weight gain? 2- If it does, would anything that has a sedative effect (calms the nervous system) do the same thing? 3- Is a daily dose of alcohol safe for the liver to detoxify every day? In my response, I recommend: - My podcast on alcohol "Does Alcohol Really Make You Fat, Which Alcohol Is Healthiest, Hidden Ingredients In Alcohol & Much More: The Ultimate Alcohol Damage Mitigation Guide." -The MEOS Pathway -Ben Lynch's Stratagene podcast Is MSG Natural Or Not? [01:01:30] Meg says:  I am wondering if you could take a deep dive into MSG. My son and I have a disagreement as to whether or not we should partake. I've heard for so long that it should be avoided but my son says that it is safe and that it is a naturally occurring compound in vegetables. He sprinkles extra MSG on his food but I avoid it like that plague. What gives?   Is Smoked Salmon Healthy? [01:07:24] Alex says:  Obviously, we all know about the dangers of smoked meat (classified as a strong carcinogen) but it is very difficult to find info on smoked salmon. Salmon is a touted as a super food but I am keen to find out your thoughts on whether smoked salmon has the same benefits or if it is more like smoked meats, that we should be avoiding? In my response, I recommend: -Smoked Salmon from Thrive Market -My interview with Dr. Ben Lynch (including the part about Stratagene for evaluating histamine intolerance) Prior to asking your question, do a search in the upper right-hand corner of this website for the keywords associated with your question. This month, I read two of the better books I've read lately on functional medicine, chronic fatigue and health concepts that it seems not many people are talking about these days. In other words, I folded over a lot of pages in these books! Both were written by the same author: Dr. Sarah Myhill. Doctor Sarah Myhill is a British doctor running her own specialist M.E. clinic in Knighton Wales, United Kingdom. Her website is an extensive resource of articles and information based on her treatment of patients, and runs to 920 webpages with over 6 million individual visits. Dr. Myhill's view is that the disease is characterised by a cellular metabolic mitochondrial dysfunction and has published several studies. Dr. Myhill has treated in excess of 10,000 CFS/ME sufferers over her 30 year career. The first book, "Sustainable Medicine: whistle-blowing on 21st century medical practice", is based on the premise that twenty-first century Western medicine?driven by vested interests?is failing to address the root causes of disease. Symptom-suppressing medication and "polypharmacy" have resulted in an escalation of disease and a system of so-called "health care," which more closely resembles "disease care." In this book, author Dr. Sarah Myhill aims to empower people to heal themselves by addressing the underlying causes of their illness. She presents a logical progression from identifying symptoms, to understanding the underlying mechanisms, to relevant interventions and tests and tools with which to tackle the root causes. She writes: "It's all about asking the question 'why?'" Sustainable Medicine covers a wide range of symptoms including inflammation (infection, allergy, autoimmunity), fatigue, pain, toxic symptoms, deficiency symptoms, and hormonal symptoms. And Dr. Myhill includes a toolbox of treatments for specific illnesses and ailments, as well as a general approach to avoiding and treating all disease. Finally, she offers a series of case histories to show how people have successfully taken control of their health and healed even in the face of the most discouraging symptoms?all without the harmful interventions of 21st century Western medicine. The second book, "Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalitis " is just as good. In this book, details the practical application of her successful and comprehensive treatment approach for CFS/ME. Key chapters include: -The clinical picture of CFS: CFS symptoms list, medical tests for chronic fatigue -Mitochondria and chronic fatigue syndrome: energy powerhouse, mitochondrial failure, implications for major organs, vital tests -Treating mitochondrial failure -Foundations for recovery - the Dr Myhill CFS protocol with tips for CFS help: rest and pacing, vitamins and minerals, Vegepa for CFS, sleep, diet, allergies, digestion, detoxification & antioxidants -Related health issues: avoiding viral infections, hormonal disturbances in CFS, the contraceptive pill and HRT, oxygen supply, psychological aspects of CFS, the right exercise -Toxic and viral causes of CFS: chemical poisoning, chronic infections, pain -Practical CFS help: where to start (rest, nutritional supplements, Vegepa for ME, sleep, stone age diet, treating mitochondrial dysfunction, correcting hormones, detoxing, avoiding infections) During our discussion, you'll discover: -Dr. Myhill's overall philosophy of medicine...6:45 -How Dr. Myhill tests mitochondrial function, and why she feels it's so important...15:30 -What is myalgic encephalitis and how is it any different from chronic fatigue syndrome...21:10 -Why Dr. Myhill uses a fat biopsy to test for detoxification...23:30 -Dr. Myhill's infatuation with Vitamin C and how she uses it to treat chronic fatigue...26:30 -Why Dr. Myhill administers a lot of intravenous magnesium to her patients...33:00 -The fascinating link between the fermenting gut and chronic fatigue...40:15 -What allergic muscles are, and how they are linked to fibromyalgia...51:00 -At the very end of the book, Dr. Myhill has a recipe for live cultures, and why she's not a fan of probiotics...52:00 -Dr. Myhill's recipe for linseed-Paleo-ketogenic bread...54:00 -Why Dr. Myhill focuses on the acid-alkali balance...56:00 -And much more! You could purchase in 250gm packs and that saves weighing it! Use dark or golden linseed grains - the golden grains produce a brown loaf, the dark a black one.  Do not use commercially ground linseed - the grinding is not fine enough, also it will have absorbed some water already and this stops it sticking together in the recipe.  If you purchase linseed in bulk then you must weigh it really accurately in order to get the proportion of water spot on! No raising agent is required. Pour half the linseed into the NutriBullet together with one rounded teaspoon of sunshine salt. Grind into a fine flour. Use the flat blade to get the finest flour. Grind until the machine starts to groan and sweat with the effort! You need a really fine flour to make a good loaf. This takes about 30 seconds. The finer you can grind the flour the better it sticks together and the better the loaf.  I do this in 2 batches or the blades "hollow out" the mix so that half does not circulate and grind fully. Pour the ground flour into a mixing bowl.  Repeat the above with the second half of seeds and add to mixing bowl.  Whilst this is grinding, measure the water you need. Add in exactly 270ml water (not a typo - 270 it is!). Chuck it all in at once, do not dribble it in. Stir it with a wooden spoon. Keep stirring. It will thicken over the course of 30 seconds. Keep stirring until it becomes sticky and holds together in a lump. The amount of water is critical! When it comes to cooking I am a natural chucker in of ingredients and hope for the best. But in this case - you must measure! Initially, this will look as if you have added far too much water! Keep stirring. Use your fingers to scoop up a dollop of coconut oil or lard. Use this to grease the baking tin. Your hands will be covered in fat which means you can pick up your sticky dough without it sticking to your hands. Use your hands to shape the dough until it has a smooth surface.  Drop it into the greased baking tin. Spend about 30 seconds doing this. Do not be tempted to knead or fold the loaf or you introduce layers of fat which stop it sticking to itself. This helps prevents the loaf cracking as it rises and cooks (although I have to say it does not matter two hoots if it does. It just looks more professional if it does not!) Let it rest for a few minutes, so it fully absorbs all the water and becomes an integral whole. Rub any excess fat into your skin where it will be absorbed. There is no need to wash your hands after - the basis for most hand creams is coconut oil or lard. (Yes, lard! It amuses me that rendered animal fat is a major export from our local knacker man to the cosmetic industry). Put loaf into the hot oven at least 220° for 60 minutes. Set a timer or you will forget! I always do! I do not think the temperature is too critical - but it must be hot enough to turn the water in the loaf into steam because this is what rises it. I cook on a wood fired stove and the oven temp is tricky to be precise with. That does not seem to matter so long as it is hot! Indeed, I like the flavour of a slightly scorched crust. Wipe out the mixing bowl with a paper towel. This cleaning method is quick and easy. The slightly greasy surface which remains will be ideal for the next loaf. The point here is that fat cannot be fermented by bacteria or yeast and does not need washing off mixing and cooking utensils. My frying pan has not been washed for over 60 years. I know this because my mother never washed it either. When the timer goes off, take It lasts a week kept like this. Freezes well too. When the timer goes off, take loaf out of oven, tip out and allow to cool on a wire rack. Once cool keep in a plastic bag in the fridge. It lasts a week kept like this. Freezes well too. Best used sliced thinly with narrow bladed serrated knife. Do you have questions, thoughts or feedback for Dr. Sarah Myhill or me? It's high time to dig into another one of the dog-eared books on my shelf - one of those titles that I folded over, highlighted and scribbled in profusely. The book, entitled, "The Brave Athlete: Calm the F*ck Down and Rise to the Occasion", claims to solve the 13 most common mental conundrums athletes face in their everyday training and in races. It's based on the idea that you don't have one brain - you have three; your ancient Chimp brain that keeps you alive, your modern Professor brain that navigates the civilized world, and your Computer brain that runs your habits (good and bad). They fight for control all the time and that's when bad things happen; you get crazy nervous before a race, you choke under pressure, you quit when the going gets tough, you make dumb mistakes, you worry about how you look. What if you could stop the thoughts and feelings you don't want? What if you could feel confident, suffer like a hero, and handle any stress? According to today's podcast guests and the authors of the book - Dr. Simon Marshall and Lesley Paterson - you can indeed take control of your brain so you can train harder, race faster, and better enjoy your sport. Dr. Simon Marshall trains the brains of endurance athletes and fitness enthusiasts to become happier and more mentally tough. He is former Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego and Professor of Exercise Science at San Diego State University where he was Director of the Graduate Program in Sport & Exercise Psychology. He has published over 100 scientific articles on the psychology of exercise and has been cited in the scientific literature over 10,000 times. He has served as invited expert on exercise science for the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Cancer Society. He is currently the Performance Psychologist for the BMC Racing team, an elite WorldTour professional cycling team. As the sherpa-husband of professional triathlete Lesley Paterson, he is the founding member of Team S.H.I.T. (Supportive Husbands in Training), and competes in triathlon or cycling events as the husband of Lesley Paterson. Lesley Paterson is a professional mountain biker, 3-time world champion in off-road triathlon, an Ironman® triathlon champion, endurance coach, and foul-mouthed Scots lassie. Growing up in Scotland, Lesley was the only girl on an all-boys rugby team, which is where she nurtured her love of dirt and dirty words. Banned from the team when puberty struck, she took up cross-country running and triathlon and was soon winning national titles and competing internationally. Lesley founded Braveheart Coaching to train and inspire endurance athletes to compete with passion, toughness, and an unwavering "Braveheart" spirit in overcoming obstacles. Paterson is a trained actress, a screenwriter, and personal trainer to Hollywood actors. Hailing from Park City, Utah, he is considered to be an icon in the alternative health and wellness industry, traveling across the country educating practitioners, chiropractic docs and the general public on the root causes of inflammation driven diseases such as Weight Loss Resistance, Hypothyroid, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Autoimmune Disorders and other chronic conditions. He's especially smart and well-educated when it comes to fasting, ketosis and detoxification: three topics we tackle on today's show (Pompa was also a guest on one of my most comprehensive episodes on cellular toxicity). He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University, graduating second in his class. His authority today, however, is rooted in his own personal battle, having overcome serious neurotoxic illness and heavy metal poisoning using the cellular detoxification strategies learned in his journey back to health. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What Dan experienced after the exosome and stem cell treatment in Park City, Utah...11:00 -Dan's best tips for achieving a multi-day fast, and why he fasted for six days prior to his own stem cell injections...14:15 -Which supplements to take while fasting...17:00 -What kind of water to drink while you are fasting, and why dry-fasting burns more fat...34:00 -The best way to filter the water in your house...39:00 -The insider deep dive into diet variation and the "feast/famine" cycle...44:00 -How to follow the 5-1-1 rule for knowing which days to eat carbs, which days to eat fat and which days to fast...59:30 -Why you shouldn't follow a ketogenic diet year round...1:12:15 -Why Dan's children fast and how he gets kids to fast (his son fasted for 12 days)...1:15:00 -The fasting challenge with 100,000 people that Dan will be overseeing in October...1:22:30 -And much more! A couple months ago, in Sedona, Arizona, I laid on a "sound-healing table", where a guy named Poranguí proceeded to blast my body with everything from a didgeridoo to a gong to a flute, all blended with deep tissue massage work and an immersive musical and sound healing experience unlike any I've ever experienced. So who is this guy? Coming from a lineage of traditional healers in his family, Poranguí's cross-cultural background and study in both indigenous and occidental settings around the world inform his rich therapeutic bodywork practice. His technique - called "Myorhythmic Release" - combines the healing properties of sound, movement and breath as integral parts of our physical, emotional and energetic well-being. Experienced in a wide variety of therapeutic modalities as a Licensed Massage Therapist, his education includes over 15 years of study and practice with an interdisciplinary degree from Duke University in Integrative Health. Also an accomplished musician, Poranguí has performed, recorded and toured internationally. He combines his intimate understanding of bodywork and sound to engage the physical and energetic bodies and promote transformative healing. Poranguí intuits where you need release and healing by drawing on ancient and modern wisdom including: -Sonic Healing Tools -Indigenous medicine practices from Brasil, Mexico and the Southwestern US -Traditional Chinese Medicine -Thai Bodywork -Vedic Energy Centers -Reflexology -Myofascial Therapy -Trigger-point -Cranio-sacral Integration -Cymatic Sound Therapy In addition to his hands, Poranguí may use several sonic tools as needed to facilitate the healing process during the session: crystal & metal tuning forks, Tibetan prayer bowls, crystal bowls, didgeridoo, voice and a variety of other indigenous percussion. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Poranguí developed his unique healing methods and indigenous medicine practices he learned from Brazil, Mexico and the Southwestern USA...15:00 -Why Poranguí begins with the breath, and why Ben found the style of breathing that Poranguí taught him to be so difficult...20:15 -How Poranguí uses a giant sound massage table to blast the body with sound during the massage...46:00 -The science behind a Swiss researcher named Hans Jenny and cymatic sound therapy...50:45 -How Poranguí uses sonic healing tools and instruments, including crystal & metal tuning forks, Tibetan prayer bowls, crystal bowls, didgeridoo, voice and a variety of other indigenous percussion... -And much more... After I published the podcast Should Christians Do Yoga? How To Combine Energy Medicine & Religion, Flat Earth Christianity, Transcendental Meditation, Anti-Aging & More With Pastor Toby Sumpter, one of my Jewish friends reached out to me and said:  "The Christians and Yoga podcast was interesting, if you are interested in the Jewish take on that - I have summarized it below as succinctly as possible: 1. Jews believe in 5 levels of the soul. Nefesh is the lowest level and is as the Bible says resides in the blood - which while meridians don't travel exactly along with the blood, this is clearly described as an energy in the body and is consistent with chi. The second level is Ruach and means wind - there are different aspects of chi that are consistent with both of these descriptions. Above this level is when you talk about breath of life stuff in the interview, be aware that the 3rd level is called Neshama which means breath and is higher in the cause and effect ladder extending to the Divine. We believe the highest level actually resides in God. 2. Many Jews including myself believe that many of the traditions of the east originated with Abraham, it says in Genesis that he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them to the east. Most mystics believe those became the teachings of the east. Those teachings were occult in nature and some of course have degenerated into idolatry. 3. The prophets were adept meditators with remarkable meditative techniques. What many don't know is that there were schools of the prophets, most didn't just wake up and start prophesying, they studied in academy's where complex techniques using music, chanting, and certain postures were employed. 4. Hatha yoga as is commonly known is so far removed from its origins that it has essentially become sanitized in its reference to religion and so for Jews it would be ok. Chanting one needs to be careful of and the words meaning should be investigated carefully. "Om" is problematic if it is chanted in its traditional form in Hinduism which would violate the 2nd commandment. IMHO, kundalini separated from its own spiritual teachings without a qualified teacher of the tradition is dangerous and with them while deep and holding many truths are not consistent with the Bible. 5. There is debate in Jewish circles about Reiki since symbols are used but most who know the origin of those symbols say there is nothing that would contradict the Bible. 6. Masters of qi for example can help heal people of various things, this isn't spiritual though, most see it as a valid branch of medicine and so it's not uncommon for TCM doctors to have nice practices in orthodox jewish communities. 7. All the above being said - each treatment, technique, workout, and meal should be linked to God if we are to be biblical minded people. It is why Jew's say a blessing before everything - to make sure we do so with the proper intention. 8. One needs to be conscious of Matthew's saying about not serving 2 masters. Most don't realize that it echoes the 7th commandment as we believe that along with the common belief of what adultery is, it also means dilution, weakening, or mixing of any pure relationship. As my teacher Gerald Epstein, MD reminds me often health, healing, and holiness come from the same root. If it is all about tangible physical healing one can usually make the distinction fairly easily but all of these paths can, if you wish, lead to more ethereal and spiritual experiences, it is at these levels, one needs to honor the spiritual path you are on, be discerning, and not to have another Master." He then went on to introduce me to Dr. Gerald Epstein, his teacher and said that he had used Dr. Epstein's teachings and techniques in his medical practice, where he has seen it shrink metastatic tumors that should have killed his patients years ago. He then proceeded to connect me with Dr. Epstein, who is the guest on today's podcast. Gerald Epstein, M.D., has been a pioneer in the use of mental imagery for treating physical and emotional problems. With more that 40 years of training in the mind, he is a leading proponent of the Western spiritual tradition and its application to healing and therapeutics. Dr. Epstein maintains a private practice in New York City and is a clinical professor of psychiatry at New York's Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He has lectured and taught worldwide. He founded and directs the American Institute for Mental Imagery (AIMI). As a NYS Regents Chartered School, AIMI offers courses to the general public in healing and the western spiritual path as well certificate programs for licensed mental health professionals. He is a recipient of a National Institutes of Health Grant in Alternative Medicine to research the effects of mental imagery in the treatment of bronchial asthma. He has authored several mental imagery classic books and cds including: Healing Visualizations: Creating Health Through Imagery, Healing Into Immortality, The Phoenix Process, Kabbalah For Inner Peace and The Natural Laws of Self-Healing. In 2012, he was awarded "Imagery Person of the Year" by Imagery International. Most recently, he completed the "Encyclopedia of Mental Imagery: Colette Aboulker-Muscat's 2100 Visualization Exercises for Personal Development, Healing and Self-Knowledge" Dr. Gerald Epstein's focus is using the power of imagination for healing and he has studied this in Christian and Jewish and even Sufi perspectives. His main teacher was a remarkable woman who lived in Jerusalem - she had people come from all over the world to see her and she would lead them through mental imagery exercises that would heal them (there are some amazing stories there we delve into in today's podcast). He left traditional psychiatry to study with this woman and learn her path, and he also has written some interesting things about how Freudian psychoanalysis is an anti-biblical approach. In Judaism, death is a perversion. One of his main focuses is on immortality - and his upcoming book is entitled We Are Not Meant to Die. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The fascinating story of the teacher Dr. Epstein met in Jerusalem and the fringe mental imagery exercises he learned from her...9:15 -How some people sleep less than an hour a night, eat barely anything at all, and still function just fine...32:00 -How Dr. Epstein practically uses the power of imagination for healing...45:15 -Why Dr. Epstein believes every physical malady is related to a social or a spiritual disturbance...53:00 -How to detox the liver through visualization...59:30 -What Dr. Epstein means when he says "We Are Not Meant To Die" and his current studies on immortality...1:08:00 -And much more... I recently hired certified building biologist Brian Hoyer to do a full day "dirty electricity" and biological health analysis of my entire "biohacked home" in Spokane, WA (the same home I write about in this book), and he found some pretty shocking and surprising issues. For example... ...when I'm inside my low EMF infrared sauna (which we tested and found was indeed low EMF), my body is getting exposed to cell tower transmissions and radio waves and being "as an antenna" to propagate those waves (we discuss solutions in the episode)... ...the master bedroom of my house is actually located over a geothermal stressor area (which causes large amounts of magnetic field exposure) and the mattress itself is propagating and magnifying this electromagnetic signal, and there are hefty amounts of radio and cell phone tower signals pouring in through the bedroom walls... ...my twin boys are being exposed to nearly twice this amount of electrical stress in their bedroom due in part to their pet dragon lizard lighting and elaborate "Christmas tree" lighting they've decorated their room with... ...my office is mostly protected - thanks in part to the dirty electricity filters I have spread throughout the office - but my so-called "biologically friendly" LED lighting is producing a heavy amount of flicker that is nothing like that of the sun... ...my Molekule air filter had an intense WiFi/Bluetooth signal emitting from it even in sleep mode. Brian disabled it. He actually owns one of these filters too and didn't realize I had one until he investigated and located the WiFi/Bluetooth source with his RF meter. ...my home security system gives off 12 RF/WiFi pulses every time the doors shut or open... ...the dish on the east side of my house is broadcasting WiFi (despite my home not having a WiFi router enabled), leading Brian to recommend putting the dish further from the house and running the cable underground and up through the wall at the same location, or mounting a metal box around it to block the signal from coming toward your home... ...there are four cell phone antennas located within a mile from me... -Ptera antenna 1 3.650 GHZ -Ptera antenna 2 3.650 GHZ -Ptera antenna 3 3.650 GHZ -Ptera antenna 4 3.650 GHZ ...and another four with higher frequencies within three miles from me... -Ptera 18 antennas transmitting at 11 GHZ to 19 GHZ -Ptera 29 antennas transmitting at 11 GHZ to 18 GHZ -T-mobile 8 antennas at 21.8 GHZ and 1 at 19 GHZ -T-mobile 10 antennas at 19 GHZ ...and there are hundreds more transmitting all around my "isolated" home in the forest. Just imagine what it's like in a city or more urban area! Brian's meter only detects up to 8 GHZ, and he doesn't know for sure where those higher frequency cell phone signals are aimed. 5G technology is going to use frequencies up to 100 GHZ, which sounds horrible but, in reality, after about 30 GHZ the waves have a much hard time penetrating solid objects. Up to 30 GHZ, however, can penetrate if there is enough power behind it, and cell phone companies have to ramp up the power going up to 30 GHZ in order to push through solid objects. This is why 5G networks will have to use the higher frequencies in conjunction with the lower ones. When it comes to shielding effectiveness against these issues, Brian highly recommended this article In the podcast, Brian also speaks about another 5G test study. See, the Telecom industry has done many tests to see what the barriers are to the networks working well that they plan to install. These are perfect to look at because technically you'd want to build or outfit your home from these materials. It also gives a good idea on how well the shielding paint will hold up against the higher 5G frequencies. Brian is convinced that the layers of T98 shield paint we discuss in this show will 5G proof my home since the third party test reports on the paint show this - as do the Telecom industry's own studies on materials that attenuate the higher 5G transmissions. During our discussion, you'll discover: -The background behind the ancestral health movement and how it inspired Brian's work... 9:00 -The equipment Brian is using to examine my house... 11:00 Goss Meter. Gigahertz Solutions NFA 30M.  HF Digit Meter by Geovital Protect 1207-I  NFEM Digit Meter Field Probe -Why we should avoid exposure to both dirty and clean electricity... 18:30 -Inside my gym, mostly the sauna... 22:00 Measuring radio frequencies. My body was being used as a radio antenna!!! Measuring electric fields being generated. -My Office...41:00 Measuring the magnetic fields with a NFA 30M Lights are producing a lot of "flicker." Incandescent bulbs don't have "flicker." Looking for devices with Bluetooth capabilities and wifi (spy meter). Stetserizer Micro Search meter is measuring "dirty electricity" in my office. -The Bedroom... 1:01:00 Electricity is very high on my bed. Measuring "geopathic stressors." Radiation that's coming up from the earth. Often associated with "sacred places" around the world. We realize that the springs in my bed are magnetized. Mapping out the lines on the bed. -Solar Panels... 1:23:45 _______________________________________________________ Episode Sponsors: -KionU Ready to take your health business to the next level?
